You don’t get better in the season. The time to get better is in the off season.
Summer is the off season of Youth Ministry. The summer is less about weekly programming and more about events and gatherings. This gives you the opportunity to work on areas in your personal and professional life and in your ministry.
Here are some measurables you could work on this summer:
Personal growth. Do something intentional about your personal development. What are two or three things you could do?
Family. A Youth Minister’s family is at the mercy of a summer calendar of events. You schedule your Youth Ministry, create a schedule for time with family.
Relationships. Whether at events or in between, spend some intentional time developing deeper relationships with students and adult leadership.
Projects. Make a list of projects to accomplish this summer for your Youth Ministry. Deep cleaning, renovation, updating and staging are a few ideas. Better yet, get students and adults to help and deepen relationships!
Plan for your best fall launch ever! Schedule the date for your fall launch–promotion, start of midweek, back to school or whatever you call it. Imagine what you would like that big night to look like. Do something to get students' attention and go for it.
You can create other measurables for yourself and ministry but this will get you started.
